I Bin Robbed.Got me credit card statement today & thought shit I owe a lot
Hang on I thought, whats this shit in Euros
Some bastard's been spending up on my frigging card.............................in France
After much on hold time with the Visa Fraud Squad it turns out someones been buying up big at Conforama in Frog land.
Lucky I guess that it was 3 days ago & the statement turned up today but the bastards never held back on their one & only purchase.
Visa fraud mob is also mystified as the purchase should have sent off alarm bells??
I don't have to pay for any of it but still a pain in the arse with canceled cards & no access to cash for the weekend.

What a mongrel!! everything is out there in cyberland somewhere. Have you been purchasing via the net to Euro? I must admit i have quite a bit and always
wonder about security with cc transactions?

Nah, never bought anything in Euro.
Who knows, I was in Melbourne 3 weeks ago so it may have been copied & cloned (can't think of the word they call it) then the card shipped overseas.
I've heard of that happening before.
Apparently it's a big store it was used in & more than a couple of grand in one purchase.
Lady I work with got a phone call last year from her bank when someone tried to make a $10,000 purchase on her card in the UK?

YIKES!!!!!!! Actually I saw a doco about credit card fraud recently and the story was set in Melbourne, mecca for shopping and dining...
Glad to hear that you are not gonna be out of pocket over it.
I have asked my bank if I can raise the limit on a single transaction and they politely refused stating security as an issue, I can understand why now...evn so its still possible to be ripped for 2Gs in a single transaction...

Just spoke to the man at VISA & asked how can I try to avoid this happening in future & the Indian voice on the other end of the phone say’s to me:
“ohhhhhhhhhhhhh sir, you must be staying away from doze dodgy veb sites in future.
I said “ehhh, what friggen dodgy web sites?”
Mahatmatowell say’s “ohhhhhhhhhhh any of doze dodgy veb sites where you might be purchasing some goodies from”
I say’s “I only use PayPal on non dodgy sites pal”
Mahatmatowell say’s ‘Ohhh, ohhhh, ohhhh, PayPal used to be da safe way.

Rod,
I read on the News website last week about a card skimming gang both operating & getting caught recently in Melbourne
It was the old "skimming device attached to the ATM" trick
Perhaps you were unlucky enough to be at the wrong place at the right time
Withdraw any money while you were there
When we were recently in Melbourne I didnt let my Visa card out of my sight
At a restaurant they started to walk out the back when I handed my card to them
Quick as a flash I shot behind the counter & followed them in
Initially they were probably thinking I was going to rob them
But they said the EFTPOS terminal was in the bosses office
No problems I said but I`m staying with the card & followed them in
Surely I wasnt the 1st person to bail them up on this

Ya know what Murdoch most people would just accept stuff like that...good on ya for being vigilant.

No, didn't withdraw any money.
Only places we used the card was at a BP all nighter on Cooper street & 3 clothing stores at DFO.
My wife & I don't let anyone take our cards either.
Even if they want to check signatures they can look while I hold it (My card that is).

hmmmm...I hope that doesn't mean someone got your card details thru an internet site then...

We ended up with charges on our card after we joined Skype ( the internet phone thing). Seems we had a couple of very long converations whilst in Bulgaria to another person in Switzerland.
Had to cancel the credit card and reset all the usual account direct debit things.
What a pain in the arse!!!!
