TomTom Rider V2 GPS

Well gibbler was asking about my GPS set up so I thought I`d share a few pics & words

1st thing I`ll say is don't pay the $999 RRP
They are available cheaper, both online & instore
I got my best online price & then went into a local retailer & they beat that again.
Ended up scoring it for $860

Its a lot of money but a quality unit
It comes with all mounting, cabling, chargers etc.....
The Ram mount is very good & quite stable
I did replace the extension arm with a smaller one so it fitted more snugly into position for my bike
It`ll run for nearly 8 hours on battery but also has power cable for the bike
I also purchased a car kit so I can use it in any car as well doubling its use.

The screen & graphics are very good & clear making it easy to see
The audio is via a Cardo Scala blue tooth kit
It fits easily to your helmet
The earpiece is about the size of a 20 cent piece & Velcro's`s in place inside your helmet.
The audio quality is good & I can always hear & understand it
There is also a Mike & the option of connecting to your blue tooth phone so as to be able to make/receive calls on the bike

I use TYRE http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/index.php to plot routes
It use Google Earth & Maps to create your route then will send the file to your TomTom
Its very easy to use making trip planning fun
I recently got an email from TomTom saying that option is now available through their own TomTom home program but I haven't checked that out yet.
Tyre is so user friendly I`m not that tempted to try.

cheers for the info n cool pic

looks a nice compact unit, which I guess a bike dedicate one would be  very happy  bit pricey shocked but the advantage of having the one unit for car and bike is a bonus.... doesn't look that outta place on th bike either, I mean you wouldn't want it there all the time but when touring etc....

have to add one to the list  laughing

Yeah I only use it when traveling/touring
I used it for a while around town when I 1st got it
Just to test it out & get used to it
It was very accurate in its directions
But now it only gets used occasionally
Although as you say having it so you can use it in your car is very handy
And the car kit is portable
I`ve used it in a few cars now

When not in use on the bike you can chose to leave the mount in place as it is pretty low profile
Or you can just loosen the extension arm by hand
All the upper mounting will pull away just leaving the the bottom knuckle attached by the U bolt
This is really obscure & hard to see so its fine to leave there
But if you really wanted to you can undo the 2 nuts on the U bolt to drop the whole thing off.
The wiring will pull back under the front screen out of sight when not in use.
ajturbo

that is one sexy hand you got there....

(had to get in before BB...hehehe)
