Post Motorcycle Safety Gone Crazy ? Reply with quote
I`ve just seen a "consultation pare" on motorcycle safety proposals from the Qld Government
Its quite eye opening reading as there is some drastic measures being considered in it
Just some of these include :

-Lights On
-Hi Vis Clothing
-Minimum level of "safe" riding gear
-New licensing system
-Surrender license when not in use
-extra fees & costs

And they mention exploring "alternate" methods of speed enforcement
Have a good read of it as it may be coming to a state near you if we don't stop it :

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/r..._safety_consultation_paper_v3.pdf

At the rear of it is a survey you can fill out
There is also an online Poll you can take to give feedback to the proposals at :

No, I must admit I didn't.
It was having the same effect as a laxative on me so in the interest of office safety I had to pass on reading the whole thing.

Here is a reply from the QLD govt :

Dear Mr Murdoch

Thank you for your email dated 17 July 2008 to the Honourable John Mickel
MP, Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
regarding your concerns for front number plates on motorbikes.  The
Minister has asked that I respond on his behalf.

The Queensland Government recognises the importance of road safety to all
road user groups, including vulnerable groups such as motorbike riders. It
is also acknowledged that excessive speed does contribute to a proportion
of crashes involving motorbikes.  In fact, in the 2006 Queensland Road
Safety Summit, representatives identified improving speed enforcement of
motorbikes as a high priority action.

Queensland Transport supports initiatives that will improve vehicle
identification, which is an essential component of effective speed
enforcement. The issue of the requirement for a front identifier for
motorbikes was most recently raised by Victoria and is currently being
considered at a national level.  Queensland Transport representatives are
aware of this project and have raised a number of practical concerns that
must be addressed in order to identify the best and most appropriate means
of having motorbikes identified from the front.

I am advised that there are a number of issues to be considered prior to
the making of a requirement for a front number plate to be fitted to a
motorbike. Among those issues is the current design of motorbikes which in
many cases does not easily allow for a front number plate to be attached.

Queensland Transport advises that options being considered include the use
of adhesive backed decals showing the registration number of the motorbike
and, methods of fixing brackets to hold a number plate to the front of a
motorbike.

It is necessary to investigate each of these types of identifiers and the
method used to fix the identifier to ensure that there is no impact on the
safety of the motorbike, rider or other road user through an alteration of
the handling, cooling or operation of the motorbike.

If you require any further information, please call Mr Andreas Blahous,
Land Transport and Safety on (07) 3253 4260.

Yours sincerely

i heard this on the radio the other. day.

some old toss who admitted himself that for years he has been driving, said that we should all have those fluro vests, so he could make us out.

i would suggest that he get his eyes checked refularly as if he has visual issues he is the one that shouldnt be driving!

its a fukd up world and rather than address poor driving attitudes, they jsut want to make everybody else adapt.

fukn stupid. people who dont drive should loose their license also, huh. fukn idiots.

i have no problem making people do a rider course, but lets understand that people make choices.

they understand when riding a bike that there is greater risk. why the fuk do we need others to impose boundaries on that. if some are not or dont feel safe with bikes, then stay the fuk away. those that want to accept the risk should be allowed.

same as any activity that involves risk. sky diving, snow skiing, base jumping (just made legal here is nsw), chess playing.

i like a system i saw in the states a few years back. you get absolute top health cover, and you can ride helemt free.

they are saying if you are dumb enough and pay the cover, then who cares, you are covered to do as you want. no imposition on the public.

do the same here. have a private health scheme for bikers, and you pay to be in that scheme, then you can do as you wish. helmt/no helmet, stilletos, leathers, or speedos. your call. you come off, then you are at least medically covered for your own actions.
the risk is your own, and you accpet the burden of it yourself. then its up to the individual as to how much they want to impact their own lives.

and this bullshit about imposing your injury and stress on ambulance and hospitals. well fuk that too. i have great repect for the medical profession and all tey do, but lets face it, the again had a choice. they know that people will come in with varying forms of injury!

lets not stop at motorcyclist... what about fukn push bike riders. they get 50-60klms an hour and they where skin type lycra, and a small piece of foam. why stop at legislation of motorbikes. lets look out for the pushy as well, huh.

damn i saw a bloke that came off his pushy while iw as waiting at hosptial. the poor bastard has more skin loss and damage than me. (albiet i was in full kit - black by the way) i didnt hear him getting a chat about protection and danger, but i did!

ah but, its ok as its accepted for pushies.

fukn stupid fuking society sometimes! backwards, fuk'd up and without commonsense.

okay,Vic had a protest ride, why do we not do it in all states?I am against the front plate, basically because front facing speed cameras were supposed to be outlawed due to invasion of privacy(ie some judge cought gettin head from said woman, not wife)strange how we get one set of rules for the masses and another for the rich or infamous.I will not put a dirty great sticker on the front of my bike nor will I put a steel knife like plate on there as well.Flouro colours farg off,i pay good money for my riding kit,I wear hi vis for work, not riding my bike,I have reflectors and hard wired lights for that.
It's protest time peeps what do we all reckon?
I'd throw my hand up for trying to organise NSW anyway.
Phil
