your bike gear... |
|
as some of you know... i had a fall two weeks back. i gotta say i am sure happy i was wearing full gear, but after looking around and checking a few things i thought a few points for you all...
1/ real happy that i had proper bike boots with the plastic heels etc. as i flipped over my heel slapped the road real hard. my entire foot was banged and bruised up, and still after ten days i can not walk on my heal properly yet. if it wasnt for the hard protection i wouldve smashed the heel bone.
2/ i face planted the road then rolled over pretty fast onto my back. the hard armour padding protected a lot of my joints etc. i got no less than 9 impact bruises on my body. some pretty full on. for example on my thigh you can still feel the hematoma (sp) on the muscle. the side of my right knee and calf got a beauty smack also, and the joint is still very tender. although not going too quick, how you fall greatly determines the impact.
3/ learnt that white leather does not hold up very well. i was surprised to see on my jacket that the black leather areas had nice deep grazing but no wear through, yet right next was the white leather that wore through completely in two spots and almost in a third. asking a few questions it appears that either hte process to help make the leather the nice bright white or the softer leather used means that the white leather finish does not hold up anywear near as much. doesnt matter the quality of the jacket either. where as the balck leather seems to take grazes quite well, the white leather seems to melt away or disintegrate very quickly. so consider that when you buy next. me... it will be nice tough black, as i have a hole about an inch in diametre right thru the skin on my left elbow.
4/ my only real injuries were the hole, a chip in my elbow, two cracked ribs, severe bruising and some whiplash. if not for the full gear... i reackon i would have easly busted a knee , ankle, and elbow, as well as taken skin of my thighs, hands, forearms, chest and back.
anyway... jsut a thought for you all out there... have fun. i will be back very soon!

Sorry to hear of your off Good to hear that you were wearing full gear tho.
I always wear full gear when riding. The only time I've come off was at low speed & hurt like buggery!!
The gear stood up very good, just a couple of scuff marks on the leathers...oh & a whopping great hole inthe side of my right boot.
I'm sure if I wasn't wearing proper boots, it would've been alot worse than it was.
All of my leathers are black so can't comment on coloured leather not being as strong as black.
So if your out riding, Always wear your gear! Better to be safe than sorry.

Hope you heal quickly, twoguns. It still amazes me the amount of people that don't wear the gear (squids). I refuse to acknowledge a nod from a squid. Some people just have to learn the hard(est) way I spose...

I've sometimes wished I was squid in a stack because I got better cheaper than my gear.
To be more serious, I'm glad you were wearing the heavy gear. I go around in a compromise - heavy jacket, (horse) riding boots and dress jeans. I can wear this to work. Your stack makes me think of wearing more gear and changing when I get to work.
